RESPONSIBILITY

At Lunor, we manufacture high-quality products that delight our customers – and we take responsibility for the environmental impact of our actions. Our sustainability strategy is based on four pillars:

1. AVOIDANCE

Our top priority is to avoid environmental impacts right from the start.

Wherever possible, we rely on renewable energy sources, reduce the use of materials and optimize our production processes to minimize waste and emissions. We give preference to local production and suppliers to ensure short transportation routes and high standards. We use paper adhesive tapes, paper filling material and compostable plastics to avoid the use of plastics. Our glasses are shipped in unprinted recycled cardboard boxes, while foam and bubble wrap are banned from our premises. Our company building is equipped with a 99kW photovoltaic system and battery storage. We also have six charging points for electric vehicles.

2. COMPENSATION

Not all environmental impacts can be avoided.

We therefore offset unavoidable emissions by supporting environmental projects and participating in international CO₂ certificate trading. We attach particular importance to investing exclusively in projects that have been awarded the Gold Standard certified. This certification guarantees that the projects make a measurable contribution to climate protection. By retiring the certificates purchased, they are withdrawn from global trade and can no longer be resold. This achieves genuine offsetting. 3. ACTIVE ACTION

Lunor actively participates in initiatives and projects that are committed to environmental protection.

Our commitment does not end with prevention and compensation. Lunor actively participates in initiatives and projects that are committed to environmental protection. By promoting and applying innovative technologies and sustainable practices, we want to make a positive contribution and at the same time raise awareness of environmental issues in our industry. As a member of the Sustainability in Ophthalmic Optics interest group, we are trying to make the issue more visible and actively participate in a recycling system for the return of optical acrylic lenses. More information about IG Nachhaltigkeit. Together with our partner Bee Future, we have been hosting our own bee colony since 2018 to promote local biodiversity and preserve the endangered honey bee.

4. SOCIAL COMMITMENT

We believe that sustainability also has a social dimension.

That is why we are committed to fair working conditions and support projects that benefit the local community. Through educational initiatives and direct support, e.g. for the Christoffel Blindenmission and the Grace P. Kelly Foundation, we help to improve people’s lives in the long term.

A PERFECT GREEN WORLD?

Of course not! At Lunor, we see sustainability as a journey, not a destination. We are constantly striving to improve our practices and do our bit to protect our planet. We invite our customers, partners and employees to join us on this journey and make a difference together.
