Responsibility
What lasts leaves a lighter mark.
The most sustainable thing a company can do is also the most obvious: create things that last.
Made in Germany
Wherever possible, we manufacture in Germany: in Pforzheim, Fürth and Passau — with short distances, long-standing partners and fair working conditions. When you understand how a pair of glasses is made, you treat it differently. That is exactly the point.
Experience the manufactory
The most sustainable pair of glasses is the one that never needs replacing
A Lunor is made to be repaired. We keep spare parts in stock, adjust, renew and reshape — so that, over the years, a pair of glasses becomes a favourite. Every frame worn for a lifetime is one that never has to be made again.
Mehr erfahrenResponsibility becomes visible when you look closely.
Responsibility is the natural consequence of the way we work. Since 1991, we have been making frames that are not designed for just one season.
We are also honest about what we cannot yet do.
We do not claim to have a perfect environmental balance sheet. We are working on recycling cycles, optimising our processes and avoiding emissions — step by step, transparently and without grand statements. For us, responsibility also means being honest about where we stand.
Moving into Lunorallee 1
The ambition: to plan and equip the new company headquarters so that it works in harmony with the environment and is as self-sufficient as possible: heat pump, geothermal energy, concrete core activation, triple glazing, photovoltaics, battery storage. A building designed to avoid CO₂ emissions, energy waste and pollutants wherever possible.
Our bee colony moves in
Since 2017, a bee colony has lived on the Lunor grounds — around 50,000 bees. As soon as the temperatures allow, they swarm out into the neighbouring nature reserve and the Black Forest fir woods. The colony is cared for, monitored and supported together with Beefuture.
Certification by Fokus Zukunft
Offsetting is not the goal for us, but the final step. Avoidance comes first. As self-sufficient as our company building may be, every Lunor takes a much longer journey, from production to delivery. Some of this is in our own hands. Over much of it, we have little to no influence. That is why, back in 2018, we calculated our CO₂ footprint and offset what we could not avoid through climate protection certificates. Our complete CO₂ footprint report at Fokus Zukunft.
Plastic-free logistics initiative
Let’s be upfront: we have not quite managed it. We were able to replace plastic packing tape and filling material with paper alternatives. The zip bags that protect our glasses and cases have remained, due to internal process requirements and the lack of an equivalent alternative. We are still looking. If you know of a plastic-free solution we have missed — we are listening: Get in touch with us.
German Brand Award Special Mention
Our efforts were recognised at the German Brand Award with a “Special Mention” in the category Excellent Brands – Sustainable Brand of the Year.
Additional EV charging stations
Our company fleet is being consistently converted to electric mobility. Four additional charging points installed.
Upgrading battery storage & photovoltaics
Our photovoltaic system has been expanded from 69 to 99 kWp. We have also increased our battery storage capacity.
Sustainability in the Optical Industry Alliance
Together with other manufacturers and brands, we are involved in the “Sustainability in the Optical Industry Alliance”.
Recycling PMMA demo lenses
Demo lenses are the clear lenses supplied with every pair of glasses. They keep the frame in shape until the optician replaces them with the correct prescription lenses — made from PMMA, and until now discarded as waste.
Under the leadership of Eschenbach and together with other brands, we have contributed to a recycling process for these lenses. A regional pilot will begin in 2026.
Social responsibility
Responsibility does not end at the workbench. We support selected organisations over the long term — and provide help where it is urgently needed.
Grace P. Kelly Association
Supporting children with cancer and their families e.V.
Christoffel Mission for the Blind
We support efforts to prevent avoidable blindness.
Emergency relief
In times of crisis, we provide rapid support.
